Port Vale have secured the return of striker Mo Faal on a season-long loan from Wrexham ahead of the 2026-27 campaign. The Gambian forward, who spent time at Vale Park last season, will link up with the League One side until the end of the campaign after a disrupted 2025-26 term.

What happened?

Faal, 23, rejoins Port Vale after a brief stint with Cheltenham Town at the end of last season, where he scored a dramatic last-minute winner against Gillingham in April. His loan at Vale Park was cut short in January due to injury, limiting him to just three goals in 16 appearances. The striker has struggled for game time at Wrexham since signing from West Brom in August 2024, making only eight League One starts.

Why it matters for Port Vale

With Port Vale finishing 22nd in League One last season (42 points, 10W-12D-24L), manager Phil Parkinson believes Faal’s return will provide much-needed firepower. The Valiants scored just 36 goals last term, conceding 61, and finished 61 points behind leaders Lincoln. Parkinson praised Faal’s connection with the club and hopes the striker can stay injury-free this time around.

What comes next?

Faal will now focus on pre-season training with Port Vale, aiming to prove his fitness and form ahead of the new campaign. Parkinson emphasized the importance of stability for the striker, saying, "I didn’t want him to have a couple of weeks with us and it gets broken, and he’s with somebody else." The manager expects Faal to make an immediate impact, with the forward eager to showcase his abilities after a challenging 2025-26 season.
