Port Vale fan Ricky Bridge is cycling from the Etihad Stadium to Wembley in memory of his Manchester City-supporting father, Ada Bridge, who passed away earlier this year. The 63-year-old was a lifelong City fan but also held a special place in his heart for Port Vale, a passion shared by his son.

What is the charity challenge?

Ricky Bridge, from May Bank, is taking on the epic 150-mile cycling challenge to raise £1,500 for the Dougie Mac hospice, which cared for his father during his final months. Ada was diagnosed with cancer last summer and died on February 10, just three days after his 63rd birthday. The ride will begin at the Etihad Stadium on the last weekend of July, with funds supporting local patients and families.

Why Port Vale mattered to Ada Bridge

Ada Bridge was a passionate Manchester City fan, but Port Vale was always close to his heart. Ricky recalls travelling to games together, including unforgettable trips to Wembley. "Port Vale was always special to him," Ricky said. "Some of my happiest memories are watching football with him, whether at Maine Road, the Etihad, or even Vale Park."

How Dougie Mac helped the family

The Bridge family received support from Dougie Mac during Ada’s illness, which Ricky describes as "incredible." He praised the hospice’s care, saying it allowed them to focus on spending precious time together. "They treated my dad with compassion and dignity," Ricky said. "We will always be grateful for their support."

Port Vale finished 22nd in League One last season with 42 points, 10 wins, 12 draws, and 24 losses. Their recent form saw them lose their last two matches, ending the season with a 0-2 defeat to Lincoln City on May 2, 2026.
